New Rules re Training for 16-17 year olds working 20+hrs pw
New rules come into force this August (2013) regarding training for 16-17 year olds. This is called the RPA or Raising of Participation Age.
If you employ a 16-17yo for more than 20 hours per week for 8 weeks or more, they must undertake either an apprenticeship or part-time accredited training alongside their work. They must attend at least 280 hours of training per year, which equates to around one day per week. I'm not sure how this will pan out if they are temping, but no doubt we'll find out soon.
Whilst training may seem a bit of a burden on employers, planned wisely it can bring added value to your organisation and improve engagement levels among your staff.
